Tuesday, August 25, 2015

ENLARGE Aug. 25, 2015 2:48 p.m. ET If your car could talk, you might be surprised by how much it has to say. Ease up on the gas pedal, buddy. Don’t forget to expense these miles. Hey! That valet with the smirk is taking me for a joyride. Yet hearing from your car is no longer strictly the domain of “Knight Rider,” the dumbest show about TV’s smartest car. My…

2016 BMW X1: The Least-Expensive BMW Crossover Is Kind of Expensive – Car and Driver (blog)

Tuesday, August 25, 2015

As if the encroachment of front-wheel-drive-based platforms into the BMW fold weren’t enough, the new, front-drive-based 2016 X1 is also more expensive than the rear-drive-based X1 it replaces. It really isn’t as bad as it sounds, as competitors such as the Mercedes-Benz GLA-class and the Audi Q3 are also based on humble front-drive underpinnings and are priced in the same neighborhood as the BMW. But still, the mid-$30K space isn’t exactly bargain-land….

Monday, August 24, 2015

The 2015 American Consumer Satisfaction Index, an annual survey that involved 4,300 consumers, found that satisfaction with automobiles dropped for the third straight year to the lowest level since 2004. High new-car prices also were a factor. “While it is true…

10 Sporty Cars That Won’t Suck Away Your Gas Money – TheStreet.com

Monday, August 24, 2015

NEW YORK (MainStreet) – The sports car isn’t fuel efficient, because, until recently, it didn’t have to be. A sports car is, at its core, a frivolity. It is vastly overpowered for all but the most desolate U.S. roads. Its lack of seating and lip-service cargo space prevent it from serving any true practical purpose. It’s a statement vehicle, and that statement tends to be that the driver can afford…

That much is almost certainly true. But that doesn’t mean that EVs are past a market tipping point just yet. Hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and full battery-electric cars—combined—represent only about three percent of the market. And that percentage hasn’t…
